To Write Love on Her Arms

“TO WRITE LOVE ON HER ARMS IS A NON-PROFIT MOVEMENT DEDICATED TO PRESENTING HOPE AND FINDING HELP FOR PEOPLE STRUGGLING WITH DEPRESSION, ADDICTION, SELF-INJURY, AND SUICIDE. TWLOHA EXISTS TO ENCOURAGE, INFORM, INSPIRE, AND ALSO TO INVEST DIRECTLY INTO TREATMENT AND RECOVERY.”

I chose to highlight this non-profit today as they have been a beacon of light for many of the young people I work with.  They are an all inclusive group that aims to shed light on the issues of self destructive behavior and encourage the cessation of such behaviors as self harm, substance abuse, and eating disorders.  TWLOHA gets their message out in numerous ways and has experienced exponential growth.  They put on events where the founder and other contributors speak, bands get involved to promote the issue, they have student organizations called UChapters that meet on college campuses, and their web presence includes forums, Twitter, Facebook, blogs, etc.

TWLOHA.com is an inspiring and motivating website.  Surfing though connects you to videos, blogs, and merchandise that promotes healing and peace.  For those in active crisis, it doesn’t take more than a click or two to find links to crisis hotlines.

When you feel like you’re at the end of your rope…

When you feel like you're at the end of your rope...

It hurts my heart to think of all of the people who feel as though no one cares about them and/or that their life has become unmanageable for one reason or another.

One thing that I have learned in both my personal and professional lives is that someone always cares. You never know who looks up to you, relies on you for strength, or just plain old loves you.

So if you feel like you’re at the end of your rope, tie a knot and hold on! Reach out for help. Contact SOMEONE, ANYONE…call every number you have in your phone until someone answers. I promise, the world is not better off without you.

Here are some links to help yourself or a loved one:

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Posting a movie review isn’t something that I ever intended to do; however, this movie had a message that can’t be ignored. This movie follows Walter Mitty, a bland man who dreams of adventure despite being stuck in a mundane day-in-day-out routine.

You will walk away from this movie feeling inspired. One of the most brilliant moments happens when a photographer finds what he’s been waiting years to photograph, but he doesn’t take the picture. Stating instead that some moments are so rich in life that they should be experienced with the eye and held in memory rather than experienced through a camera and held in a print.

With that thought, I’d ask you to be aware of how often you grab your camera or phone to record a moment that perhaps is so profound that it should be enjoyed with your full attention. I’ve seen in concerts, for example, that many people are holding a phone in the air recording…and it makes me sad that they aren’t fully present in a moment that they so obviously wanted to be.
